About Us

Our vision is that:

Together, East Midlands museums will take a leading part in protecting the region’s inheritance for the benefit of present generations, and as a legacy for the future; recognising and reinforcing the role of museums as important contributors to the region’s educational, social, cultural and economic life.

Our mission is:

Providing the voice of museums in the East Midlands.

The objectives, built on that mission, are to encourage:

• Participation by everyone delivering museum services in a genuine network supporting their needs;
• Strong advocacy for excellence in museum provision and collections care in the East Midlands;
• Increased use and public enjoyment of museums.

To achieve these objectives, the following strategies will be followed:

EMMS will:

• Be an advocate for museums on policy and strategic issues, promoting awareness of museums' role in the educational, cultural, social and economic vitality of the region;
• Promote good museum governance;
• Promote the effective management of museums and use of their resources;
• Work as an active partner to deliver the East Midlands Museums Partnership (EMMP) and Renaissance agendas.

Membership of EMMS is open to every museum in the region, organisations involved in cultural heritage, and individuals.
